Inkscape Design

I have always been interested in graphic design. I am a programmer by nature (or nurture depending on your psychological persuasion), so making pretty pictures isn't as easy as programming perl parsing scripts. Unwilling to spend $600 on Adobe Illustrator I found Inkscape makes an excellent vector graphics editing alternative.

Available for:
Linux
Mac OSX
Windows

Check out their tutorial section to see some of the possibilities. My son really enjoys the TV show Yo Gabba Gabba, so here are some examples of my humble attempt at vector graphic renditions of Muno and Plex:

Give it a shot if you're interested in graphic design or recreating a children's cartoon character.
